Dr Gerald Gardner
A certain Mrs Crowther of Sheffield is very keen for us to share the following document. It's the PhD certificate that was awarded to Gerald in 1937. It's probably the reason he felt justified in being called Dr. Gerald Gardner (and fair play to him) - as you may be aware Doreen Valiente (and Patricia) went to some trouble to prove he was a PhD but were down a few blind alleys looking in the wrong places (Doreen wrote to the University of Toulouse and received a negative response from them). Anyway, Patricia is (rightly) keen to point out that Gerald was not a liar.
We'll leave the reader to determine the academic merit of this certificate but just note that this is 1937, long before he made a name for himself in the Craft and it is probably in recognition of his archeological and anthropological achievements.
