Druidism, or Druidry as it is often called, is for some a spiritual path, for others a religion, and for others a cultural activity.

As a cultural activity, Druid ceremonies provide part of the context and pageantry for the National Eisteddfodau of Wales, Cornwall and Brittany.

As a spiritual way or philosophy, Modern Druidism began to develop about three hundred years ago during a period known as the ‘Druid Revival’. It was inspired by the accounts of ancient Druids, and drew on the work of historical researchers, folklorists and early literature. In this way Druidry’s heritage stretches far back into the past.

Good news

that the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids was chosen in 2009 as a subject for Religious Education with the Oxford Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts examination boards for students at GCSE level (This is the General Certificate of Secondary Education taken usually around 16 yrs) and Religious Education teachers can download source material from this page on the OBOD site. http://druidry.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=PagEd&file=index&topic_id=1&page_id=168
Other Druidry related information can be found on http://www.whatisdruidry.org/  and http://druidnetwork.org

Philip Carr-Gomm will be presenting a talk on the link between Gerald Gardner and Ross Nichols the founder of OBOD at Conway Halls, Sunday 12th September 2010 see here for details:

http://www.paganmusic.co.uk During the 1990s he was trained as a Bard, poet and storyteller in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, and it was during this time that he found his artistic expression within folk music, forming the ‘Mystic Folk’ band Spiral Castle for a support concert with Robin Williamson (founder member of the highly influential Incredible String Band). Spiral Castle played regularly during the late 90s at festivals including the Pagan Federation International Conference at Fairfield Halls in Croydon to a capacity 1500 audience.
